การประชุมวิชาการ 1/2551 ในวันที่ 23-25 มิถุนายน 2551 นั้น
ในสองวันแรกบรรยายโดยทีมวิทยากรถึง 8 ท่าน ในด้าน Orthodontics,
Periodontics, และ Restorative Dentistry จากสหรัฐอเมริกา ดังรายชื่อด้านล่าง
ส่วนวันที่สามบรรยายโดยวิทยากรไทย และมีประชุมใหญ่สามัญประจำปี

จันทร์ 23 มิถุนายน ทีมวิทยากรจาก USA พบกับ
1. Dr. Peter Ngan: Professor and Chair, Dept. of Orthodontics University of West Virginia และ Head of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry University of West Virginia.

Dr. Ngan จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก Harvard University และได้รับ Certificates in Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry และ Hospital Dentistry จาก U. of Pennsylvania ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry ท่านมีผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์กว่า 100 เรื่อง และได้บรรยายในประเทศต่าง ๆ กว่า 20 ประเทศ ท่านเน้นการศึกษาเรื่อง early treatment of dental and skeletal malocclusions, growth and development, biology of tooth movement, dentofacial orthopedics, orthodontic appliance therapy, oral implantology, orthodontic bonding systems and adult interdisciplinary treatment.

Lecture #1: "Early Class III Treatment to Improve Facial Esthetics."
การบรรยายเกี่ยวกับการรักษา Class III patients ด้วย protraction facemask การเลือกผู้ป่วยที่มีลักษณะและอายุที่เหมาะสมกับการใช้ facemask treatment รวมทั้งกลยุทธในการรักษาอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพที่สุด เพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยเด็กในช่วงที่ยังเจริญเติบโตมี facial profile และ self-image ที่ดีขึ้น

Lecture #2: "Predicting Class III Growth."
Dr. Ngan จะกล่าวถึงประโยชน์ของการใช้ growth treatment response vector (GTRV) analysis ในการ predict excessive mandibular growth ในผู้ป่วยเด็ก Class III malocclusion.

2. Dr. Ray Sugiyama: Past-president, College of Diplomates of the ABO

Dr. Raymond Sugiyama จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก Case Western Reserve University และจบทันตกรรมจัดฟันจาก Loma Linda University ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics ท่านเป็น Past-President ของ College of Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics และเป็นอาจารย์ที่ Loma Linda University มานานกว่า 31 ปี ท่านได้เดินทางด้วยทุนของตนเองไปบรรยายให้แก่มหาวิทยาลัยต่าง ๆ ถึง 41 แห่งทั้งในเอเชีย อเมริกากลาง และอเมริกาใต้ และท่านเป็นผู้นำทีมวิทยากรทั้ง 8 ท่าน ในการมาบรรยายให้สมาคม ฯ ในครั้งนี้ด้วย Lecture: What is Good Orthodontics and How Do We Achieve It

ปัจจุบันมีการกล่าวถึง Evidence-based orthodontics กันมาก ซึ่งส่วนมากเป็นข้อมูลจากงานวิจัยของนักศึกษาปริญญาโททางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน แต่การบรรยายนี้ Dr. Sugiyama จะแสดงผล Evidence-based orthodontics ที่มาจากข้อมูลการรักษาของทันตแพทย์จัดฟันที่มีประสบการณ์ มีผลการรักษาที่ดีทั้งความสวยงาม Dental and Facial Esthetics และการใช้งานที่ดีทั้งด้านการบดเคี้ยว การหายใจ และการกลืน รวมทั้งมีเสถียรภาพในระยะยาวด้วย

3. Dr. Harry Hatasaka: University of Pacific: Past-President of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists

Dr. Hatasaka จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก Northwestern University และอบรมด้านทันตกรรมจัดฟันจาก U. of Washington ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics และเป็นอาจารย์ที่ U. of the Pacific ท่านเป็นสมาชิกของ Angle Society, Tweed International Foundation และ American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the Cranio-mandibular Institute. ท่านได้บรรยายในทั้งในอเมริกา ยุโรป เอเชีย ในหัวข้อต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Finishing and TMD treatment ท่านเป็น Past-President ของ Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists และได้รับรางวัลเกียรติยศ 1988 PCSO Honoree for outstanding service to the orthodontic profession.

Lecture: Treatment of TMJ Disorders Dr. Hatasaka จะบรรยายถึงเครื่องมือทางทันตกรรมที่ใช้ในการรักษา TMDi และ parafunctional habits เช่นgrinding, clenching, clamping and gripping.

4. Dr. Elizabeth Kao: Professor of Restorative Dentistry, University of West Virginia

Dr. Elizabeth Kao จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์ที่ University of Pennsylvania และ ได้รับ MS in Histology จาก Boston University ท่านเป็น Professor ด้าน Restorative Dentistry ที่ West Virginia University ท่านเป็นสมาชิกของ University Advisory Council of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

Lecture: Interdisciplinary Treatment to Opitmize Facial Esthetics

ผู้ป่วยจัดฟันที่เป็นผู้ใหญ่มักมีปัญหาฟันสึก กระดูกรองรับฟันลดลง ปัญหาTMD โรคปริทันต์ และปัญหาโครงสร้างกระดูกขากรรไกร ซึ่งปัญหาเหล่านี้จำเป็นต้องได้รับการวางแผนการรักษาโดยความร่วมมือของผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางทันตกรรมสาขาต่าง ๆ Dr. Kao จะบรรยายถึงหลักการและแนวทางในการวางแผนการรักษาผู้ป่วยจัดฟันผู้ใหญ่ และลำดับการรักษาในสาขาต่างๆ

Dr. Glenn Sameshima จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก U of California at San Francisco และจบทันตกรรมจัดฟัน และ PhD จาก U. of Southern California. ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics ท่านมีผลงานหลายฉบับ ตีพิมพ์ใน orthodontic literature และได้รับเชิญบรรยายทั้งในสหรัฐอเมริกา และต่างประเทศหลายครั้ง

Lecture #1. Understanding Root Resorption Caused by Orthodontic Tooth Movement

การบรรยายนี้จะสรุปแนวคิดล่าสุดในการเกิด external apical root resorption ในทุกแง่มุม โดยแสดงตัวอย่างทางคลินิกของปัจจัยต่าง ๆ และแผนการรักษา ที่จะเพิ่มความเสี่ยงต่อการเกิด severe root resorption มีการใช้ computer models แสดงผลของแรงที่กระจายในรากที่มีรูปร่างผิดปกติ รวมทั้งแนะนำกลยุทธระยะสั้น และระยะยาว ในการจัดการปัญหา severe root resorption

Lecture #2. Treatment Outcomes and Appliance Claims

ระยะเวลาในการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันมีความแตกต่างกัน ทันตแพทย์จัดฟันบางท่านใช้เวลาสั้นในการรักษา บ้างใช้เวลานานแต่อ้างว่าได้ผลการรักษาที่ดีกว่า การบรรยายนี้จะกล่าวถึงการวิเคราะห์ผลการรักษา ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเวลาที่ใช้กับผลการรักษา และปัจจัยที่มีผลเวลาในการรักษา

2. Dr. Kenneth Kai: Diplomate of the ABO, Incoming President of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists

Dr. Kenneth Y. Kai จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก University of California และได้ฝึกอบรม hospital rotating internship ที่ Johns Hopkins Hospital ท่านจบ MS ทันตกรรมจัดฟันจาก Fairleigh Dickinson University ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics เป็น Secretary ของ Northern California Angle Society และเป็น President-Elect ของ Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics. Dr. Kai ทำงานในคลินิกส่วนตัวที่ San Jose, California นานกว่า 36 ปีและเป็นวิทยากรในประเทศต่าง ๆ 16 ประเทศ

Lecture: Improving Cleft Palate Cases at Infancy

Dr. Kai จะกล่าวถึงการใช้ periogingivoplasty ในผู้ป่วยอายุ 4-10 สัปดาห์ เพื่อปรับตำแหน่ง bony segments ของช่อง cleft ให้ได้ arch form ที่สมมาตรขึ้น และเพื่อลดความจำเป็นในการทำ bone grafts เมื่อเด็กโตขึ้น ท่านจะแสดงเทคนิคในการปิดเพดานใน unilateral cleft lips and palates เพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยมีพัฒนาการด้านการพูด มี velar muscle continuity และการบดเคี้ยวที่ดีขึ้น

3. Dr. Ravipan Naradejbhusit Smith: Diplomate, American Board of Periodontics

Dr. Smith จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์จาก Case Western Reserve University และจบด้าน Implant Surgery และ Periodontics จาก University of California in San Francisco ท่านเป็น Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics และเคยบรรยายใน Guatemala, Mexico รวมทั้งประเทศไทย

Lecture: Integrated Periodontal Treament with Orthodontics

การบรรยายจะกล่าวถึงการวางแผนการรักษาทางปริทันต์ ควบคู่กับทันตกรรมจัดฟัน ทั้งในด้าน sequence และ timing ที่เหมาะสมในการ refer การใช้ diagnostic work-ups ข้อควรคำนึงทางปริทันต์ และชนิดของศัลยกรรมปริทันต์เพื่อ best esthetic outcomes

4. Dr. Kitichai Rungcharassaeng: Assoc. Professor, Loma Linda University

ทพ. กิตติชัย รุ้งจรัสแสง จบทันตแพทยศาสตร์ เกียรตินิยม จากจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้รับ Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Prosthodontics จาก Boston University และ MS in Implant Dentistry และ Orthodontics จาก Loma Linda University ปัจจุบันเป็น Associate Professor ในแผนกทันตกรรมจัดฟันที่ Loma Linda University ท่านมีผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ในด้าน implant และ orthodontic หลายเรื่อง

Lecture: Mini-implants as Orthodontic Anchorage
การบรรยายนี้จะกล่าวถึง clinical applications of mini-implants as orthodontic anchorage และข้อจำกัดในการใช้ mini-implants

พุธ 25 มิถุนายน: ทีมวิทยากรไทย ประกอบด้วย

วันสุดท้ายของการประชุมนี้ เน้นการรักษาผู้ป่วยผู้ใหญ่ ในแง่ Esthetic ของรูปหน้า และ Esthetic Appliances แบบ Clear Removable Appliances (ส่วนหัวข้อเกี่ยวกับ Interdisciplinary Treatment in Adult Patients ที่สมาชิกเสนอมา ขอให้อดใจรอในการประชุมปีหน้านะคะ) วันที่ 25 มิย. เริ่มด้วย อ. ทพญ.หทัยชนก เจริญยิ่ง จากมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล จะ Review ผลของ Aging ทั้งใน Facial Skeleton และ Dental Part อย่างละเอียดทุกแง่มุม เวลาคนไข้จัดฟัน “หน้าเปลี่ยนไป” จะได้แยกได้ว่ามาจาก Aging หรือ Treatment Effect .....จากนั้น รศ.นพ. ศิรชัย จินดารักษ์ Plastic Surgeon จากคณะแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จะบรรยายเรื่องการแก้ไขส่วนต่าง ๆ ของ Lower Face ด้วยการผ่าตัด เช่นการแก้ไข Lip Length, Lip Thickness (เช่น ริมฝีปากหนาและยื่น เมื่อจัดฟันด้วยการถอนฟันแล้ว Lip Position จะยุบลงจาก Incisor Retraction แต่ริมฝีปากยังหนาอยู่ สามารถผ่าตัดได้ไหม ต้องทำหลังถอดเครื่องมือจัดฟันหรือไม่) รวมทั้งการแก้ไขบริเวณ จมูก คาง และ Angle of Mandible. ..... ช่วงบ่าย พบกับ นพ. ชลธวัช สุวรรณปิยะศิริ จาก รพ. สมิติเวช จะมาไขข้อข้องใจ ในการใช้ Dermatological Approaches ต่าง ๆ เช่น Lazer, Botox Injection, Radiofrequency ที่ว่าช่วยเปลี่ยนแปลงรูปหน้า จากหน้าเหลี่ยมเป็นหน้าเรียวได้หรือไม่ อย่างไร เวลาพบผู้ป่วยที่มาปรึกษาต้องการจัดฟันให้หน้าเรียว เมื่อดูแล้วไม่ใช่ปัญหา Tooth Position จะได้ส่งให้ Surgeon หรือ Dermatologist ต่อไป..... พลาดไม่ได้ กับการบรรยายของ นท. พลพิทยา วรชาติ ร.น. และ ผศ. ทพญ. นงลักษณ์ สมบุญธรรม จากคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยศรีนครินทรวิโรฒ จะกล่าวถึงการใช้ Invisible Removable Thermoplastic Appliances ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมมากขึ้นในผู้ใหญ่ที่ไม่ต้องการให้เห็นเครื่องมือจัดฟัน การบรรยายจะเปรียบเทียบกับการใช้ Fixed Appliances รวมทั้ง Review Clinical Limitations, Material Alternatives, Structural Alteration After Usage, และ Effects ของแรงจากเครื่องมือประเภทนี้ ..... ตบท้ายด้วย An Insightful and Truthful Talk เกี่ยวกับ Clear Aligner System โดย ทพ. ธิติ ศิริไกร ว่า Aligner นั้นใช้ได้ผลจริงหรือไม่ ผลการรักษาดีไหม ต้องมาจัด Finishing ด้วย Fixed Appliance ตอนจบไหม เปรียบเทียบการรักษาจาก Aligner ที่ทำจาก Manual Set-up และ Aligner เป็นชุดที่ทำมาจากการใช้ 3-D Computerized Imaging การเลือกเคสให้เหมาะกับเครื่องมือ และเลือกเครื่องมือให้เหมาะกับเคส เพื่อให้การรักษามีประสิทธิภาพและเกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดต่อผู้ป่วย .... สมาชิกสามัญ อย่าลืมมาประชุมใหญ่ประจำปีของสมาคม ฯ และเลือกตั้งนายกสำรอง และอุปนายก ด้วยค่ะ..... ผู้ที่ลงทะเบียน APOC แบบ Conference 3 วันตอนปลายเดือนมีนาคมที่ผ่านมา รับสิทธื์ลดค่าลงทะเบียนครึ่งหนึ่ง เมื่อลงทะเบียนงานนี้ก่อน 12 มิถุนายน ไม่ต้องแนบหลักฐานใด ๆ มา ฝ่ายทะเบียนจะตรวจสอบเอง แล้วพบกันที่งานประชุม เริ่ม 8.30 น. ด้วยอาหารว่างเช้าค่ะ
